Eating Out West Midlands

Review: The Loft Lounge, Birmingham

6th July 2013

We visited the Loft Lounge on Birmingham’s Bromsgrove Street as part of a large party of 25, for an end of GP training party. Its not somewhere I’ve been before, but first impressions were really good – really stylish decor withot being over the top, spacious and a gorgeous courtyard area with an outside bar – fantastic for the late evening sunshine.

We had one of their few private rooms which are available to hire. Our was at the back of downstairs, separated from the rest of the bar by floor to ceiling glass doors and curtains, with the option of closing yourselves off, or leaving everything wide open to blend with the rest of the bar. A separate sound system also means you don’t have to comply with whatever music genre happens to be the bar’s chosen one for the evening.

From start to finish I could not fault the service really – drinks ordered at the bar were bought over to the tables, an attentive general manager and attention to detail from a champagne reception to making sure every individual got their main courses cooked to their preference.

The cocktails were delicious, fruity and colourful. Particular praise went to the Pimms cocktail, piled high with fresh fruit and the vibrant ‘Times Square Cooler’ my particular choice for the night!

Catering for large parties, especially when there is such a choice of dishes, even thought pre ordered can be quite a challenge as I have heard from my husband on many occasions, thus overall I think they did pretty well. My starter and main were both really tasty – duck and fois gras terrine followed by beef fillet. They were extrmemtly generous with the foie gras and the chutney was tangy and complimented the terrine well. My beef was cook medium rare – just how I asked for it so no complaints there. On a quick survey of my friends the feedback was good, with particular highlights being the lobster starter, and again, the beef.

Desserts didn’t quite meet the standards of the first courses, but, to be honest, by then I think everyone was pretty stuffed and slightly tipsy so it certainly wasn’t an issue!

Overall great place and a great night defintaly worth checking out if you are any where near the Arcadian!
