Over the bank holiday weekend, for the fourth year running, the Staffordshire village where my parents live are hosting a Scarecrow festival to raise money for the village church. Villagers get very creative and the ideas for the scarecrows are closely guarded secrets until the unveiling! Below are a couple of past offerings….
People can offer a donation in exchange for a route map to follow the scarecrow trail around the village, and are able to vote for their favourite. This year there will also be a book stall at the Village Hall, a barbecue at the Crown pub on Saturday and another barbecue at the Village Hall on Sunday as well as a bottle tombola and other stalls. Tea and cake will also be available at various locations, and as I am a keen baker and cupcake maker, my Mum asked me to make a batch to be donated to the cake stall. Below are a few pics of my creations; Vanilla cupcakes with a Maple frosting and various decorations!
Visitors to the festival will also be able to visit the Elford Walled Garden project where they can enjoy the communal areas, allotments, rose garden, orchard and riverside setting. If you’re in the Staffordshire area, pop along. It s a great family day out!
