Product Review: MustChup Sauce

26th February 2014

MUST-CHUP. The ketchup for big kids. The tag line of this new sauce hybrid is intriguing to me as I love ketchup & wholegrain mustard! The creators, brothers Mark and Andrew Salter wanted to take that retro memory of ketchup oozing from a glass bottle as a kid, but bring it into the 21st century and make it relevant for adults and to tantalise the tastebuds.

It’s a blend of ketchup and mustards but not as sweet as ketchup and not as hot as mustard, and they claim it goes with everything from chips to steak to fishcakes, with lots of ideas on their website. You can use it to cook with or as a marinade, spread, or dip so it’s pretty versatile.

Trying it out, the flavour is quite intense and tangy. You can see the wholegrain mustard seeds flecked through the sauce, but the taste of the tomato flavours are stronger than those of the mustard. I must admit when I first stuck my finger in the jar and had some on its own, I wasn’t too sure, but the more I had, the more I loved it! It tasted really good on a bacon sandwich and a hot dog, and most importantly with the nations favourite – chips! I’m interested to venture onto using it for something slightly more unusual.

It’s currently available to buy in many stores down south and online, but they are looking to expand into the Midlands, so look out for it in a store near you soon, or if you would like to stock the sauce please get in touch with the company via their website.

If you like ketchup and you like mustard, then you will love Must Chup!
