Product Review: February Degustabox

5th March 2014

I was really excited to receive my first Degustabox this month. The idea behind the Degustabox is a monthly surprise food box – 10-15 new, special or innovative food products from well-known brands each month. This differs slightly from a lot of subscription boxes out there, most of which feature artisan producers or unusual products, whereas these focus more on the mainstream. Now while I love to shop independent and local, it’s pretty hard to do 100% of the time, so this box seemed a great way to discover what new products are out there on the market that I might like to invest in from time to time in the supermarket.

You can tailor your preferences on their website when you first sign up, to what you might to might not like to see in your box, so for example if you hate breakfast cereals you can choose not to receive these. The box cost £12.99 a month including delivery, and the company guarantee the RRP cost of the box is well over what you will pay for it.

So here’s what we got in the February box!

  • Soreen sliced malt loaf
  • Soreen Banana lunchbox loaves
  • Ryvita Thins Bites – 2 different flavoured bags
  • The English Provender Company Damson and Port Chutney
  • The English Provender Company Recurrent Sauce with Rosemary
  • Scheckters Organic energy drinks -2 x 250ml cans
  • Bahlsen Pick up Chocolate Bars
  • Bahlsen Waffleleten
  • Tyrells Apple Crisps – 3 x30g bags, plain apple and apple and cinnamon
  • Peppadew Piquante Peppers

The thing that really struck me about this box, was that everything received was full size. No sample sizes here! I was very excited by the chutneys from the English Provender Company who make really good produce and also the peppadew peppers. Husband Lee will devour all the malt loaf within a day or two! There was maybe a couple of products I wouldn’t usually pick up when shopping, like the drinks and the bahlsen products, but part of the fun is trying something different. There were also a few recipe cards and information leaflets in the box giving you some recipe inspiration, but also informing you about the new products and even a few money off coupons!

The total RRP of this box would have been over £22, in my book thats a great saving especially if you like trying new things, and don’t have too many dietary requirements/dislikes!

Overall I was really happy with this box and am really interested to see what we get next time.
