It’s no secret that Lee and I love the BBC Good Food Show. The Summer Show is fast approaching and unfortunately this year we can’t make it as we’re on holiday (bad planning there!) I was recently lucky enough as part of the shows official blogging community to attend a meet up at Brompton Cookery School where we found out about some of the fabulous producers that are going to be at this years show, and got to try and take home some of their produce. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been ploughing my way through lots of great products and have come up with my top tips of producers to look out for.
The sauce and condiment market is a pretty crowded thing at the moment, so you’ve got to be pretty damn good to stand out. I think the Great British Sauce Co do just that, with punchy likeable branding, and most important of all, great taste. I’ve recently tried a few of their sauces including the Proper Tomato, Sweet Curry and Hot and Sweet Chilli. They all really knock it out the park with flavour. There’s a few more sauces in the range too, so definitely one to keep your eye out for.
This is a company I’ve only recently discovered having become a bit more adventurous with my tea drinking. They are based in Brighton and began their life in 2012. Bluebird call them selves tea mixologists and they have some truly wonderful sounding teas to suit every occasion and mood. I’m currently loving the Earl Grey Creme but have also tried Nearly Nirvana. Many of their blends have also won Great Taste Awards so if you’re a tea lover, one not to miss!
The Garlic Farm can be found on the Isle Wight, and specialise in condiments and chutneys made with, yep you guessed it, garlic. But actually they do a whole lot more besides too. I’ve had a few of the garlic farms products over the last year or so and really enjoyed them, so when I got to try some more recently I was extra pleased. Their onion marmalade has gone straight to the top of my list – its delicious, as is their garlic mayonnaise. The company also produce black garlic, and the black garlic pesto they make is something totally different for the tastebuds. I’ve recently used the black garlic cloves in a tagine recipe from Sabrina Ghayours’ Persiana book, and they add a delicious sweetness.
Little bites of sweet sticky meringue heaven. Says it all really! The pistachio I found particularly good!
I have a big soft spot for fudge, and am always buying a bit here and there from farmers markets. Ochil Fudge is among some of the best I’ve tried, and to make it even better they do a staggering array of flavours, so you’ll be sure to find one you like! (PS – go for the toffee one…..)
Also look out for Le Mesurier, Rubis Chocolate Wine, Essential Cuisine, Soralina, Scarlet Angel, and Cornish Charcuterie!
There are SO many brilliant producers at the show, these are just the tip of the iceberg, so go and immerse yourself in a fantastic event and see what you discover! 🙂
