Eating Out West Midlands

Review: The Stable

19th April 2016

Just a quick one for you today, a review of The Stable, on John Bright Street in Birmingham. This place specialising in Pizza and Cider opened in the latter half of 2015 but we didn’t manage to get down to try it until a few weeks ago.

We headed down early on a Friday evening, it wasn’t too busy but soon filled up with the after work crowd. I was really impressed with the range and choice of ciders on offer, and am longing to go back when I’m not pregnant to try some!

Although The Stable is a chain, their website claims the menus are individual to the branch. We weren’t in for a full meal so decided to share a pizza, some garlic bread and a side salad.

I was actually pretty impressed with the food. For the pizza we chose The Fresh Hawaiian – Shaved Adlington Farm smoked ham, our fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella and fresh pineapple with avocado and chilli. The base was super thin and crispy and the toppings seemed fresh, as promised, although a bit stingy on the pineapple and avocado in my opinion. They also specialise in Pies, so I’d be keen to try these.

Garlic bread was super garlicky, just how I like it altohugh a little anaemic on the base, could have done with another 30 seconds in the pizza oven I reckon. The salad was very good for a ‘side salad’ and was much more than just a bowl of leaves which was very welcome.

We couldn’t resist the pull of the Nutella Pizza Pudding  –  Chocolate, hazelnut and mascarpone pizza, so ordered a small one to share as a dessert. I’ve seen Nutella Pizza before at Peter Pizza in Leicester and Loughborough and this one wasn’t quite as good as that, but nevertheless a VERY good way to end a meal!

I’d defintly pop back to The Stable – the pull of the cider might entice me a little more than the food on its own, but I’d not hesitate to order some to soak up the alcohol likely to be consumed!
