Eating Out West Midlands

Review: Brunch at Carluccios, Solihull

10th July 2017

The well known Carluccios chain has recently bought one if it’s new generation restaurants to Solihull, in a prime location in the Mell Square area and  stones throw from Touchwood shopping centre. It is brings all day dining to the area, open from breakfast all the way through to dinner and after dark cocktails with an open plan kitchen, deli counter, large stylish interior and al fresco terrace.

The family and I were recently invited to try out Carluccios, so we opted to go and try out the breakfast/brunch last weekend. It happened to be a lovely sunny day last Sunday, so we decided to eat on the terrace area to the front of the restaurant, along with many other sun seeking brunchers.

We started off with a coffee and some fresh juice while having a look at the menu

The menu was well rounded with lots of appetising breakfasts available, but if you’ve got you’re heart set on a trendy smashed avocado dish, this isn’t the place for you, the options are more traditionally continental.

We started with a couple of pastries – an Almond Croissant and a Pain au Chocolat. The almond croissant the stand out here – soft flaky pastry and gooey in the middle.

Lee went for the  CARLUCCIO’S BREAKFAST MAGNIFICA – Your choice of free range eggs with grilled smoky pancetta, sausage, sautéed mushrooms, tomato and toasted Italian bread. Coffee or tea and a fresh juice. (£10.50). I guess the equivalent of a full english but with pancetta rather than bacon and wild mushrooms this seemed a touch more refined and a lot less greasy, it really hit the spot.

I went for the Eggs Benedict. A staple brunch item and this was done really well – a thickly cut piece of ham, prefect eggs and lots of hollandaise. Don’t you hate it when they’re stingy with the hollandaise!!

Other offerings include apricot and hazelnut toasted ciabatta with fig jam,  toasted panettone or pancetta and eggs.

Family friendly? Yes very – very accommodating with prams and high chairs and good facilities. Theres no specific kids menu for breakfast, but essentially the waiter said we could have ordered what we wanted – scrambled eggs, toast etc etc!

I was impressed with the breakfast offerings at Carluccios and actually have also recently popped in for their set lunch menu – great value and really tasty too. I would certainly recommend both of these and look forward to re visiting for an evening meal.

Disclosure: Our breakfast was complimentary for review purposes, the lunch was paid for entirely by myself. All opinions honest and our own.
