On a whim a few Sundays ago we were having a morning stroll around Birmingham and lusting after the gorgeous homewares in Made in the Mailbox when we realised we were rather peckish so decided to pop up stairs to Tom’s Kitchen. It was out first ever visit, as we weren’t sure how child friendly they might be, so brunch seemed like a good enough time to try them out.
It has a really open plan look, so perfect for people watching. Imogen was furnished with a high chair and kids pack very quickly so that was defiantly a plus. Even more of a plus that the kids pack contained stickers, her new favourite thing.
There was a good range of choices on the brunch menu to suit most tastes I think, with the kids menu containing an eclectic mixture of things from boiled eggs & soldiers to mashed bananas to sausage and beans. Again pretty well thought out I reckon and something to suit the littlies right up to the bigger kids. Imogen likes to think of herself as a big kid so she got the sausage and beans. Nothing to do with her baked bean obsession or the fact that meal times go more smoothly if they contain beans!
Lee went for the Baked Turkish Eggs with sumac yoghurt & sourdough which he really enjoyed. We often cook Mexican Style eggs at home for brunch so this was an interesting change of flavours which we are certainly going to have a go at ourselves.
I went for the Crushed Avocado on Toast with chilli, mixed seeds & cashew nuts with a side of chorizo. I loved this version – it hit all the requirements with the heat from the chilli and crunch from the seeds and nuts. My addition of chorizo satisfied my inner carnivore.
Family Friendly? Much more so than we were expecting with a good kids menu and kids play pack and friendly staff. Facilities wise the toilets are not in the restaurant, you have to use the Mailbox ones, but these, including a baby change are only a stones throw away.
So a thumbs up from all 3 of us for brunch at Tom’s Kitchen, Have you been? I would love to know your thoughts.
